Ted Talk by Mark Charles:
On Friday, April 5th, Church & Society will co-host a truly inspiring event with colleagues from St. Stephen’s. The event will feature Mark Charles and William Colby. The powerful event is called “ The truth behind We the People: the three most understood words in U.S. history.” The event will begin at Monona United Methodist Church at 6:30 pm with light refreshments beginning at 6pm. The event is free and all are welcome! We hope that you will join us.

Mark Charles is a speaker, writer, and consultant. The son of an American woman of Dutch
heritage and a Navajo man, Mark teaches the complexities of American history regarding race,
culture, and Christendom in order to help forge a path of healing and conciliation for the nation.
In 2012, He is the co-author of the book, Unsettling Truths: The Ongoing, Dehumanizing
Legacy of the Doctrine of Discovery.

William Colby is a retired professor, teaching American History/Native American History for
35 years at Madison Area Technical College.
