Monona United Methodist Church accepts, affirms, and celebrates the message of Jesus that God loves and accepts every person. We, as Members of MUMC, are called to live and practice this message within our church congregation and community. We choose acceptance over exclusion, compassion over judgment, and grace over bias. For this reason, we as a congregation invite all persons, regardless of age, gender identity, racial or ethnic identity, sexual orientation, marital status, socioeconomic status, nationality, or physical ability to join us as brothers and sisters and participate fully in the life of this congregation. We recognize that are all children of God, and as a result, we declare MUMC to be an Open, Affirming, Empowering, and Reconciling Congregation.
Our Core Values: Passionate Worship • Intentional Faith Development • Radical Hospitality • Risk-taking Mission • Extravagant Generosity
Monona United Methodist Church has been in existence since 1954, when a nucleus of interested people gathered at Nichols School. Soon the first worship service was held in a house on Winnequah Road. An initial group of 35 people became members of the new congregation and a year later the membership had grown to 100. Since then our numbers have steadily grown and our building has kept pace with ministry needs, outgrowing two previous worship facilities. Our current, contemporary, light-filled worship center was completed in 1995. The former worship space was renovated to create classrooms for a Christian Education wing. Our building—both the worship space and the classroom wing—is accessible to all.
